Embed Flickr Slideshows with flickrSLiDR

This via Patricia Donaghy. The slide show below is of my favorites - mainly coming from an RSS feed of the images tagged with "Geometry". However, you can create an embeddable slide show of any combination of user, group and tag that you like.

Created with Admarket's flickrSLiDR.

Hi Ross
I think this is one of the nicer flickr slideshows that I have found. I like the way you have embedded it into your margin. Very effective! Never thought of doing that.
Patricia
At the moment, the slideshow is giving me 'unknown error' though. Not sure if that is just a temporary thing.

Thanks Patricia.

I did get the unknown error when I came back here after getting your message. I refreshed and it went away. I haven't got it again. Don't know if it is a Blogger or flickrSLiDR issue - Blogger seemed to be a little wonky when I was signing in.

I hope it doesn't happen too often, or I will have to remove the slideshow from the left margin. I am getting it consistently with Chrome now...

Actually looking a the code - it seems like a bit of a scam. All flickrSLiDr is doing is creating the HTML to display the flicker slideshow - not adding any functionality at all. I think I could replace the src with src="http://www.flickr.com/photos/7961049@N08/favorites/show/" which is the link to my favorites and it would be just fine.

Here is the source - it seems like a bit of a ruse to get their URL on stuff. Which makes me think that the unknown error must be generated by flickr.

iframe align="center"
src="http://www.flickr.com/slideShow/index.gne?group_id=&user_id=7961049@N08&set_id=&text=&favorites=own"
frameBorder="0"
width="500"
height="500" scrolling="no">
iframe>

I had to remove a couple of "<"'s to get the comment to be allowed.

Hi Ross
Slideshow working nicely this time. No error :-)

Was looking at the code and guess you are right. They are just using http://www.flickr.com/slideShow/index.gne, which presumably is a flickr generated slideshow anyway!! You could quite easily create your own by just adding your own parameters. Nice one!

I suppose they are providing a service of sorts - an easy interface to use for those who are not familiar with generating or changing HTML code.

On March 4, 2010, Flickr stopped allowing its content to be displayed between iFrame tags, breaking the slideshow in my margin and perhaps this one as well. You can see my favorites at http://www.flickr.com/photos/7961049@N08/favorites/show/.
